This DVD was filmed at Iowa State University circa 1987 and features John Mayall's Bluesbreakers including Walter Trout (Guitar), Coco Montoya (Guitar), Paul Hines (Drums), and Bobby Haynes (Bass)

John Mayall is widely acknowledged as the father of British blues having baptised a whole generation of white, British musicians and an audience who might otherwise never have discovered the blues.

Apart from having discovered - in Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor - three of the most acclaimed guitarists of the rock era, his 'blues school' fostered the talents of a roster of artists who have since profoundly influenced the course of Rock N Roll.

Mayall's new incarnation of the Bluesbreakers, officially launched in 1984, included future stars in their own right, guitarists Coco Montoya and Walter Trout and quickly proved to be as innovative and technically gifted as their peers.

John Mayall - The Diary Of A Band, Vol.1 (1968)

This is the Mayall band of the Mick Taylor era, with one or two personnel changes between the tracks (mainly of bassplayer!). Mayall used to record all his gigs on a 2 track reel to reel tape recorder, so don't expect 2008 sound quality! However, the music more than makes up for the poor sound, with some long tracks which allow them to stretch out on fine solos, particularly from Mick Taylor and Dick Heckstall-Smith. Taylor really impresses here, showing a maturity far beyond his tender years (he was 18 when most of it was recorded!). Much of what is on here was never recorded in a studio, and Mayall had a habit of almost pulling songs out of a hat at gigs, so the chances are that 1 or 2 of these were only ever played once! Those of you who have the 2 Diary of a Band albums will find nothing new here, and in truth it is really for Mayall collectors.

John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers – Live (1969) FLAC 8.0

Following this tour, Mayall made two big decisions: firstly he was going to relocate to the USA and secondly he was going to form a new, more acoustic based line up which would not feature drums. This dramatic change was captured for posterity in the film 'The Turning Point'.
The rest of disc 1 and the whole of disc 2 are the recordings made on the June 1969 tour by the new line up of John Mayall, Jon Mark, Steve Thompson and Johnny Almond. These were made during the course of the filming of 'The Turning Point'.
