Jimmy Rogers All Stars - Blues, Blues, Blues (1999) @ | Flac+Cue | Covers |

Jimmy Rogers — Autor renovcevic @ 05:21

Duet and tribute albums yield either brilliant revisitations of familiar tunes or

mediocre covers that consist of no more than the original plus guest musician.
The Jimmy Rogers All-Stars release Blues Blues Blues is a strange brew of duets
and tributes that entices with components of brilliance but delivers little more
than mediocrity.
Mick Jagger, Lowell Fulson, and Jimmy Page appeal to a wide range of blues
listeners. Combined with Rogers, an authority in classic Chicago blues, they
have the potential to be wonderful. But they're stifled by the rhythm section,
which refuses to change its dynamic to suit the performers in the foreground.
Ignore the rhythm, and the album contains solid leads and authentic vocals. Be
warned, though, that because the rhythm's the thing, it will not be easily
ignored.
On "Blues All Day Long," with Eric Clapton, Rogers complains, "The blues won't
let me take my rest." These words might well be applied to Rogers' bassist and
drummer, who push through their performances with cold proficiency, forcing
Rogers to finish his phrases before they should end. Constant quarter notes and
repeated mundane figures lose luster somewhere around the second chorus,
which does little to encourage Clapton to play out of the box of revival riffs that
he put together for his own blues renaissance a few years ago. Jimmy Page's
work on John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" is sweeter, if only because he uses a
more metrical vocabulary. The best guest performance is Jeff Healy's blustery
lead on "Blow Wind Blow."
To find the best Jimmy Rogers recordings, one would be well advised to look in
the Muddy Waters section, for Rogers's work as a sideman. After all, Muddy
Waters, Led Zeppelin, and the Bluesbreakers are better than just Blues Blues
Blues.

Muddy Waters - The Chess Box - 3CD Box Set

Muddy Waters — Autor renovcevic @ 05:03

Muddy Waters - The Chess Box - 3CD Box Set
MP3 ~ 320Kbps ~ RS.com ~ 478mb total
Compilation: 1947- March 1972
Released 1990
Label: MCA/Chess
Time: 212:58

THE CHESS BOX covers Muddy Waters' career from 1947 through 1972. It features some previously-unreleased tracks, and many others previously unreleased in the U.S. To call these recordings indispensable is merely to state the obvious. Any one of the following would place these records among the most important in blues history--Waters' deft slide guitar playing and intense vocals; stellar instrumental support from the legendary Little Walter; Otis Spann, James Cotton, and Buddy Guy, to name but a few of the blues greats who first worked with Waters; and a repertoire of classics that includes "Hoochie Coochie Man," "Rolling Stone," and "I Just Want to Make Love to You." The length and cost of this set may intimidate some (the single-disc HIS BEST is a less overwhelming alternative), but true blues lovers should consider investing in THE CHESS BOX, the best career overview of this undisputed giant of the blues.

Personnel includes: Muddy Waters (vocals, guitar); Little Walter (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Jimmy Rogers (vocals, guitar); Leroy Foster, Auburn "Pat" Hare, Luther Tucker, Earl Hooker, Buddy Guy, Sammy Lawhorn, Pee Wee Madison, Michael Bloomfield, Paul Asbell, Rory Gallagher (guitar); Walter "Shakey" Horton, James Cotton, Paul Oscher, Paul Butterfield, Jeff Carp, Carey Bell Harrington (harmonica); Alex Atkins (alto saxophone); Marcus Johnson, A.C. Reed, Ernest Cotton (tenor saxophone); Pinetop Perkins (piano, harpsichord, organ); John "Big Moose" Walker (piano, organ); Sunnyland Slim, Otis Spann (piano) Willie Dixon, Donald "Duck" Dunn, Phil Upchurch, Ric Grech (bass); Fred Below, Francis Clay, Sam Lay, Mitch Mitchell (drums).

John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers – Live (1969) FLAC 8.0

John Mayall — Autor renovcevic @ 23:35

Live: 1969 captures John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers at a critical point in their hugely influential career. The first track on the album was recorded at the last performance by the 'Laurel Canyon' line up of John Mayall, Mick Taylor, Steve Thompson and Colin Allen at Birmingham Town Hall on May 9, 1969.

Following this tour, Mayall made two big decisions: firstly he was going to relocate to the USA and secondly he was going to form a new, more acoustic based line up which would not feature drums. This dramatic change was captured for posterity in the film 'The Turning Point'.
The rest of disc 1 and the whole of disc 2 are the recordings made on the June 1969 tour by the new line up of John Mayall, Jon Mark, Steve Thompson and Johnny Almond. These were made during the course of the filming of 'The Turning Point'.

John Mayall - The Diary Of A Band, Vol.1 (1968)

John Mayall — Autor renovcevic @ 23:01

This is the Mayall band of the Mick Taylor era, with one or two personnel changes between the tracks (mainly of bassplayer!). Mayall used to record all his gigs on a 2 track reel to reel tape recorder, so don't expect 2008 sound quality! However, the music more than makes up for the poor sound, with some long tracks which allow them to stretch out on fine solos, particularly from Mick Taylor and Dick Heckstall-Smith. Taylor really impresses here, showing a maturity far beyond his tender years (he was 18 when most of it was recorded!). Much of what is on here was never recorded in a studio, and Mayall had a habit of almost pulling songs out of a hat at gigs, so the chances are that 1 or 2 of these were only ever played once! Those of you who have the 2 Diary of a Band albums will find nothing new here, and in truth it is really for Mayall collectors.
