Joe Bonamassa - Shepherds Bush Empire (2007)

The New York-born bluesman Joe Bonamassa made a triumphant return to Shepherds Bush for a show that was sold out and then some. At 30 years old, Bonamassa is the new torchbearer for a strand of virtuoso rock that found its purest expression during the British blues boom of the 1960s and which has remained perennially unfashionable ever since. Touring to promote his seventh album, Sloe Gin, Bonamassa still accommodated such favourites as his cover of an old Free song, Walk in My Shadow, a version of Django played in the style of Jeff Beck, a scalding So Many Roads a la John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, and a reworking of ZZ Top's Just Got Paid, expanded to incorporate an instrumental sequence from Led Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused. Like a Gary Moore show, these and other songs transported the overwhelmingly male and middle-aged audience back to an era of old-fashioned musical verities, when a man with a gruff voice, an overloaded Les Paul and a hard luck story could expect to be accorded a proper measure of respect.

Amazing is the only way to describe this DVD. Let's start with the sound excellent camera work shows off the group and shows them when there soloing joe's guitar work is amazing he is like nothing i have seen in a long time a very long time. the bass player is excellent also. I felt like i was sitting there with the fan's in total amazement as they new what a performance they were seeing. If you like a tight band and a guitar player who seems like he came out of the 70's this show is for you.
